Platelet Rich Plasma

Not all PRP is created equal!
The literature supports therapeutic concentrations of 1,000,000 platelets/ul for bone and soft tissue healing. Our system delivers this high level platelet concentration with a 2% granulocyte recovery and a 1% or less hematocrit.
Make sure you are getting PRP from an FDA approved device!
PRP has been highly publicized both in the Vampire procedures touted by Hollywood celebrities and in professional sports. PRP has received increased attention from the media as it has been used to help high profile athletes who have suffered injuries heal more quickly and efficiently.  PRP therapy is being utilized increasingly to help enhance the healing process for those who have soft tissue and bone injuries. It has been effective in reducing inflammation and in boosting cell proliferation, both of which are important aspects of the healing process.  Other uses that are not highly publicized include dental surgery and wound care. Ask us about using Amnion for restorative procedures.
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy is derived from blood taken from the patient's own body.  PRP is a substance that is extracted from the blood, and comprised of components in the blood, specifically platelets and plasma. PRP contains a high concentration of growth factors (at least 7) and of those factors involved in cellular signaling, both of which are considered to be important in aiding the healing process which help in the enlistment, multiplication, and specialization of cells, all of which are essential to the healing process (see the image below). PRP is created by concentrating the platelets. The concentrate of activated growth factors contained in PRP recruits multi-potent stem cells to the area of injection. These stem cells grow new collagen, blood vessels, and fatty tissue.

What to expect?
PRP therapy begins with a simple blood draw. Then the blood undergoes a spin process in a specialized closed system centrifuge to separate the blood into its various components. The plasma, which is platelet rich, is collected and then spun again to concentrate the platelets to high level prior to being administered to the desired region. Our system concentrates to a level approved for the orthopedic surgical setting. The kits we use are FDA approved.

When a patient undergoes PRP therapy they are given injections in the area of desired tissue regeneration or injury. The Vampire Facelift and Breast Lift rejuvenates your face and breast and restores the natural shape. The growth factors isolated and concentrated from your own blood initiates new collagen and blood vessels while a hyaluronic acid such as Juvederm is added to also induce collagen formation and acts much like a scaffolding for the new tissue to grow which results in more youthful beautiful skin and volume!

When administering the treatment for musculoskeletal injuries ultrasound guidance is frequently used to ensure accuracy in treating the specific bone or soft tissue region, which may be a designated joint, ligament or tendon. After the patient receives the injection, there is a short period of time where they will avoid all exercise. After that, they begin an exercise program designed to physically rehabilitate the injured area.

Although PRP therapy involves minimal risk, there are certain cautions that should be taken when utilizing this type of approach. When undergoing treatment all anti-inflammatory medications should be stopped, as PRP is designed to aid in the reduction of inflammation and aid in healing. Also, athletes who will be involved in certain competitions need to be aware that PRP contains endogenous growth factors, which certain agencies, such as the World Anti-Doping Agency and the United States Anti-Doping Agency, forbid. This is due to the possibility that PRP might enhance one’s performance, although there is no evidence of such.
